The "VOLUME:" - [PAS] - Projects

Ron Hutt

Volume

the show’s title, reflects the many definitions of the word: a book, amount of space an object occupies and a measure of the intensity of sound. The subtitle, is a reference to a major street location or area near the performance site. To date, Volume has been performed in diverse spaces and is customized to reflect each unique venue. During this event, Ron Hutt will be live mixing sound files, edited videos, text and animation. The resulting installation is a compositional and imaginative flow between the artist and the exhibition space resulting in an unpredictable and dynamic mix of sonic and visual sensations. For audience members, the Volume project aims to stimulate new sets of meaningful and unexpected associations.

As an artist, therapist and educator, Ron Hutt engages concepts of causality (past), synchronicity (present), teleology (future) through the triadic themes of Folly-Fate-Freedom. Hutt is an internationally active artist whose innovative digital performances and site-specific installations leverage the unique attributes of traditional and emerging technology.

Recent installations and exhibition catalogues include: Provisional Haven (Refusalon, San Francisco), Axis Mundi / Open Portals (Saint Mary’s College Museum of Art), Axis Mundi (Terrain, Chicago) and Volume: Walcot (Fringe Art Fair, Bath, UK), Volume: Tachbrook (Rufus Stone Performance Space, London: UK), Volume: Ogawa (Pro Arts, Oakland) and Volume: Anjos (Roundabout Xl, Lisbon, Portugal). Hutt holds graduate degrees in Arts Therapy (University of Louisville) and Art and Technology (Art Institute of Chicago). Hutt is Professor of Digital Art and Design at the University of Rhode Island and retains studios in the San Francisco Bay Area, Santa Fe, New Mexico and Providence, Rhode Island.

Volume is an ongoing public project produced by Provisional Art Spaces -- an international association of curators and artists who create opportunities for spatial displacement and entanglement through artistic affiliations, environmental action and strategic interventions.
